    Prof. Xun Luo was born in Sichuan, China. He received B.E. degree and Ph.D. degree (both with highest honors) in electronic engineering from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China, in 2005 and 2011, respectively.
    During the past 15 years, Prof. Luo guided some leading & interesting industrial and academic R&D projects more than 20M US$, and he has diverse experience in microelectronics and communication systems. From 2002 to 2005, he was with Chengdu Sine Science and Technology Ltd., where he led the 0.2-20 GHz front-end R&D project. From 2005 to 2006, he was with Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST) for space communication R&D. In 2007, he was with Philips Research East-Asia, Shanghai, and involved in research of radio front-end for multi-mode/multi-card mobile systems. From 2010 to 2013, Prof. Luo was with the Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., as the General Manager to guide the microwave/mm-wave mobile & backhaul R&D for 4G communication with successful commercial products. Since January 2014, he serves as the Huawei Chair Consult on 5G wireless communication. Since June 2015, he has joined UESTC as Full Professor & Huawei Endowed Chair & Executive Director in Center for Integrated Circuits (CIC), UESTC. Before joined UESTC, he was Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Department of Microelectronics, Delft University of Technology (TUDelft). He has published 70 IEEE journal and conference papers, and filed/holds 50 patents. His research interests include the digitally-assisted RF/microwave/mm-wave integrated circuits, multi-resonance terahertz IC, multi-bands backhaul and wireless system, reconfigurable passive circuits, smart antenna, and system in package R&D.
    Prof. Luo was bestowed by China as recipients of The Recruitment Program of Global Experts (National 1000Plan Talent) in 2015 and The China Overseas Chinese Contribution Award in 2016. He won the 2016 UESTC Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Promotion Award. He was recipients of the 2008 Huawei Scholarship, 2009 Intel Fellowship, 2009 Rohde & Schwarz Scholarship, and 2010 Mediatek Scholarship, respectively. During the period in Huawei, he was recipients of 2011 Huawei Transmission Network R&D Advanced Tech. Achievement Award (1st place), Huawei Distinguished Young Engineer Award in 2011 and 2012, and Huawei President Award in 2013, respectively. He was the recipient of 2013 Sichuan Province Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations Award, China. His research group Big-Data Links Lab (DX-LAB) has won multiple best paper awards, design competition awards, and honorable international scholarships, including the 2015 IEEE IWS Best Student Paper Award (1st place) and 2016 IEEE RFIT Best Student Paper Award (1st place), 2016 IEEE RFIT Best Student Design Competition Award (2nd place), 2017 IEEE IMS Best Student Design Competition Award (1st place), 2017 IEEE MTT-Society Undergraduate/Pre-Graduate Scholarship Award, 2018 IEEE IWS Best Student Paper Award (2nd place), 2018 IEEE IMS Best Student Design Competition Award (2nd place), and 2018 IEEE MTT-Society Graduate Fellowship Award.
    Prof. Luo is an IEEE Senior Member since June 2012. He is Track Editor of IEEE Microwave Wireless and Components Letters, and is also an Associate Editor of IET Microwaves, Antennas & Propagation. He serves on the Technical Program Committees of IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS) and IEEE International Wireless Symposium (IWS). He is also the IEEE MTT-Society Technical Committee Member of TC-8 on Filters and Passive Components and TC-20 on Wireless Communications.

Research Themes

Digital-Assisted RF/Microwave/MM-Wave Integrated Circuits & Systems

    With the aim to meet the requirement of low power & high efficiency wireless communication, the digital-assisted RF is the key solution. To increase the data-rates with enhanced bandwidth, microwave/mm-wave IC with digital-assisted techniques are the essential module in the whole system. New high efficiency architecture with novel low power circuits will be innovated and developed for minimizing the use of conventional digital/analog circuit functions by replacing them with digital equivalents RF/microwave/mm-wave, which are more amenable to scaling in advanced CMOS technologies.

Big-Data Transmission Integrated Circuits & Systems

    Big-data (i.e., one Tb/s and beyond) transmission is the trend in the next-generation communication beyond 2020. Many applications of internet of everything (IoE) will improve the life-quality of human-beings and make the world connection closer. As one of the key sub-systems in the total big-data system, the on-chip transceiver demands novel proof-of-concepts to achieve requirements of high performance IoE system. Such transceiver aims to conquer new frontiers in terms of carrier frequency, signal processing, and RF semiconductor design.

On-Chip THz Circuits & Systems

    THz communication is one of the trend for future talk between things & human-beings. The heart-key elements, i.e., THz IC, should be carefully developed considering the process limits from Si-based process. Novel unit circuit, i.e., resonator, with improved physical meaning is dramatically demanded for THz active circuits design. Besides, THz IC with sub-system implementation should be higly developed with novelty. Consequently, there is a great need for reliable and feasiable passive devices and high-speed ICs intended for THz frequencies.

Reconfigurable Passive Circuits & Systems

    For the coming 5G & future communication, data-rates and frequency spectrum are the limitation. For the front-end implemetation, reconfigurable mechanism should be highly developed for the multi-mode and multi-band operation. Novel tunable passive with simultaneous frequency and bandwidth adjustment is the essential key component in pratical communication system, which still remains chanllenges for scientific research and development.
